FINDING THE ANSWERS YOU NEED

Have you taken on the ministry of church treasurer and want more training? Do you feel lost among all the IRS guidelines, paperwork, and record keeping? If so, join us as we learn how to properly handle church finances, keep accurate records, and understand employee matters  so that we might glorify God as good stewards.

This conference is sponsored by the Virginia Presbytery for all of its churches. Guests from other presbyteries may also attend. Costs for non-Virginia Presbytery guests is $39 per individual.

Event Details

This conference is scheduled for the Virginia Presbytery churches and costs for the Virginia churches is paid. Guests my register to attend. The information given is highly valuable for all those dealing with the financial matters of the church as well as employee considerations, investing of church funds and gift-giving. The personnel from our denominational offices bring their expertise to your questions and will assist you in every way.

 

 

Speakers

Mr. Roger Wiles

Executive Director of Central Services of the General Synod

Mr. Wiles’ duties include: working with all Synod’s boards and committees in an advisory capacity in an effort to facilitate communication and to assist in carrying out Synod’s goals and directives.  On a day-to-day basis oversight of the activities of Central Services which include the financial services to be discussed at the seminar, employee benefits (insurance and retirement), and communications to, between, and on behalf of, the various agencies, boards and committees, congregations, and presbyteries of the denomination.

Mr. Brian Such

Executive Director of Finances, Central Services

Having earned his BBA in Accounting from the University of Texas, Brian has accumulated nearly 20 years of accounting experience in non-profit finances. His duties serving with the Central Services include consulting with agency heads to create agency budgets; assisting churches in retirement and insurance invoicing; answering tax and revenue questions; producing financial reports for the annual General Synod audit. His interests are gardening, hiking and cooking.

Mrs. Alisa Prince

Accounting Associate, Central Services

Alisa has been employed as an Accountant with Central Services since 2001.  Her current duties include, payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable.  This includes the billing of insurance and retirement premiums to churches and agencies. In prior years she has been responsible for recording donor gifts, budgeting for boards and committees, journal entries, financial statement preparation and bank reconciliation.  Prior to The ARP Center, she worked with an employee benefits firm for 12 years in the accounting department, IT department, and 401(k) department doing plan administration.  Alisa earned a degree in Business Administration from Furman University.  She has been married for 22 years and has two daughters, Lauren and Madison.

Human Resources and Benefits, Central Services

Carolyn's contributions include processing insurance enrollments and changes; preparing monthly insurance and retirement changes for billing; assisting with insurance claims issues; maintaining MDF records; providing information to church search committees seeking pastors; working with Roger wiles to answer retirement plan questions; running online retirement plan projections for eligible ministers and employees; and assisting ministers and other employees with commencement retirement benefits.

Mr. Steve Nichols

Director of Gift Planning, ARP Foundation Inc.

Steve Nichols has broad personal ministry and financial experience including 27 years with Campus Crusade for Christ, executive outreach and 17 years in professional fund development and consulting.  His service with boards, investment and development teams has facilitated over $37M in private gifts and bequests, for projects, donor advised endowments, college scholarships, capital projects and innovative outreach to the underserved.  Steve and his wife Ann of 42 years reside in Greenville, SC and have six children and ten grandchildren. The ARP Foundation, under Synod Board of Stewardship, serves individual donors, ARP churches, presbyteries and agencies in all areas of Stewardship.  His particular focus is making available the menu of charitable financial services and investment options through the ARP Foundation offered at no cost, no fees, or commissions as a ministry of Synod.  Some of these services include helping with wills, trusts and bequests, increasing church revenue, reducing taxes, managing funds, and facilitating non-cash giving..
